Hi folks – this weekend we have one of our bigger challenge rides of the year – our 400km brevet.
This ride is entitled, “Wallace – Earltown 400”. Like to the route is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32852423
This ride will assemble to depart at one minute after midnight Friday night ie Saturday morning at 00:01hrs. Departure point is the Armdale Roundabout.
We will be heading out the Bedford Highway on our way to the Beaver Bank Road and on to Milford and Stewiacke on our way to Truro.
The Perseids Meteor Shower will be happening next week with its peak on August 11th so we may see some meteors overhead.
Our first stop will be in Truro Heights at the Millbrook Tim Hortons – this is open for drive-through only, the indoor sitting area is closed after 10pm – to grab a very early morning coffee. We then head off through Truro on our way to Masstown and Wentworth. We’ll enjoy the new pavement on Fountain Road on our way to Wallace, our second controle stop of the day, at the Whirligig’s Cafe – which opens at 8:30am so don’t be pounding the pedals too hard all night.
We then continue to Tatamagouche and Earltown on our way back to Truro, with another controle stop, then south to Gay’s River and Carroll’s Corner on our way to the ubiquitous Enfield Big Stop on our way back to Halifax again.
As this is a ride which includes extended periods on night riding, all riders will be required to have a bright primary front light and an auxiliary front light as well, and all riders will have a red LED primary taillight and another auxiliary taillight as well. All riders will need a reflective vest with lots of reflective material on it – the more the merrier. Riders without the required equipment will be denied the start.
If you plan to ride the 400k, please let me know by email by Thursday afternoon August 6th of your intention to participate.
