Ride Report – Joe Howe Loop

08/05/2025 By Alan Power

Saturday, May 3rd, 2025

A local starting point and rumours of fair winds and warmer temps brought a few more folks out this weekend.  It was a day for the books, for sure.  While John, Volker, Ron and Alan arrived at Grahams Grove in foggy conditions, we were optimistic that skies would clear and layers would be shed.

The winds were favourable as we headed out Hwy 7 and the pace was measured as we all sorted out how to take on the distance for the day.  A quick pitstop at Dessertiere Martinique for a ‘Cruffin’ and a coffee and we set back out up the 357.  There we fond winds that were even more favourable and the further inland we went, the more the sun poked through. By the time we stopped at Reids Bakery in Middle Muskie, all the layers were shed and sunscreen was slathered.  The four of us pushed through in a nice paceline for a while and we made very good time to Dutch Settlement.  From Enfield back to Dartmouth, we ran back into headwinds along the lakes and temperatures REALLY dropped as we came back into town.  But that did not dampen the day.

All in all, a great day out.  Nice to see Ron riding well, too, as he pulled strongly on the front for the first half of the day.  Jesslyn and Jay opted for a slightly alternate start, so while we didn’t see them, a little snooping on Strava confirmed a strong ride from our Treasurer.  A 200km is just around the corner for you! I hear the Brackett clan had a good ride on Saturday, too.  Will we have the first tandem sighting of the season next weekend?  Come on out next weekend and find out!

Alan
